Symptom Possible Cause Solution
No power Power cord not plugged in. Ensure power cord is firmly plugged into the power outlet.
Safety mechanism activated. Unplug the player briefly, then plug it in again.
No picture System not connected securely. Check all connections.
Damaged video connecting cord. Replace with a new one.
Incorrect TV input selected. Connect to the correct video input on the TV and turn the TV on.
Picture noise Dirty disc. Clear the disc.
Copy-protection issues. Connect the DVD system directly to the TV's S-Video input if available.
Aspect ratio cannot be changed Disc aspect ratio is fixed. Aspect ratio may be fixed by the DVD disc.
S-Video cable connection. Connect directly to the TV; aspect ratio may not be changeable depending on the TV.
No sound or low-level sound Speaker/component connections are loose. Check all connections.
Incorrect source selected. Select the correct source on the system.
Protective device activated (short circuit). Turn off the system, eliminate short-circuit, then turn on power.
Damaged audio connecting cord. Replace with a new one.
System in fast reverse/forward. Press PLAY/PAUSE/II to return to normal play mode.
Incorrect speaker settings. Check speaker settings.
Left/right sound unbalanced or reversed Incorrect speaker connections. Check speaker connections.
Incorrect front balance setting. Adjust front balance using SELECT and VOLUME +/-.
Severe hum or noise Loose speaker/component connections. Check all connections.
Connecting cords near interference sources. Keep cords away from transformers, motors, TVs, or fluorescent lights (at least 3 meters).
TV too close to audio components. Move TV away from audio components.
Dirty plugs/jacks. Wipe with a slightly moistened cloth with alcohol.
Dirty disc. Clear the disc.
No stereo effect on Video CD/CD Incorrect Audio mode setting. Set Audio mode to "STEREO" in SETUP menu.
Inappropriate connection. Ensure proper system connection.
Surround effect difficult to hear. Surround effect may be harder to discern with Dolby Digital tracks.
Disc audio format. Some discs may output mono or stereo even if recorded in Dolby Digital.
Sound from centre speaker only Disc audio format. Sound may come only from the center speaker depending on the disc.
No sound from centre speaker Centre speaker setting incorrect. Ensure centre speaker is set to "ON" in SETUP menu. Try "Dolby Pro Logic Phantom" listening mode.
Incorrect speaker volume. Adjust speaker volume.
No sound or low-level sound from rear speakers Rear speaker setting incorrect. Ensure rear speakers are set to "ON" in SETUP menu.
Incorrect speaker volume. Adjust speaker volume.
Subtitle language cannot be changed Multilingual subtitles not on DVD. Multilingual subtitles may not be recorded on the DVD. Changing language may be prohibited by the DVD.
Subtitles cannot be turned off DVD limitation. May not be possible to turn off subtitles depending on the DVD.
Angles cannot be changed Multi-angles not on DVD. Multi-angles may not be recorded on the DVD. Angles may be changed only when the angle mark appears on screen or if prohibited by the DVD.
System does not operate properly Static electricity. Press POWER to turn off, then on again.
